Ethos
Here’s where I describe this personal site’s ethos — what I’m trying to get across, what I don’t want to cover, what I hope someone might get from the architecture and system, etc.
I write an ethos statement for most projects I work on.
Format:
- Strong format for authorative posts?
- Listening to… ?
- Lately been… ?
Trust:
- Consistently honest, my opinion kind of stuff
- Not trying to keep people here, so _blank isn’t useful
- Footnotes
- Fully available on RSS
Voice / Tone:
- Doesn’t pretend to know everything
- More interested in the questions
- Not fucking tryhard like almost everything on substack
Technologically:
- Easy for people to consume and me to create
- Extra features for people like tl;dr and %completed and link to top, etc.?
- Working long term (ie some stupid upgrade doesn’t break it all)
- An investment into the markdown and data, knowing we’ll likely have to abandon ship when the above fails
- Fits into indieweb and small web standards like
- Proudly not connected to any specific ecosystem
Visual:
- Will I be able to let go of the stupid things I think get in the way?
- Should I have a theme or brand or ??
